Racey Red’s Xbox 360 Adventures

Giving a different perspective on all things Xbox360

Faith from Mirror’s Edge (Halloween 2009)

Faith from Mirror's Edge

THE best female character in any game I've found

Media-streaming through the PC (coming up)

a few of you have asked about this so watch this space…I WILL get back to you on it.

What I’m up to at the moment – part 2

I also got the new game “Lips – No. 1 hits” which was released last week.

The menus are so much better than the original game and I’m loving the mix of songs, genres, artists.

In this version you get trophies, depending on your success, with a bronze, Silver, gold (for top 100 singers of the track) and a Diamond cup (for hitting the NO 1 singer of the song).  I’ve actually managed 1 of the latter so far – it’s easier done when you download a more obscure add-on song but hey I didn’t need to do that of course (aye right!)

What I’m up to at the moment

I’ve JUST started Fable 2 – a game that came out last year – and I’m really getting hooked.

Background

In this game you are a character whose sister is killed because of her heroic blood.  The murderer also attempts, and believes he manages to kill you.  You seek revenge.

The game

You choose to be a morally good or morally nasty character and you live your life accordingly – choosing to marry (or not), have sex (protected/unprotected), take a job, buy property or start a business or you decide to follow quests which are more of an adventure with battles entailed.

Is it good for you?

Well, firstly, it’s really hard to get a disc-game you can play in the presence of a small child (they tend not to be appropriate) but with this game I can decide to make some money from work, or go home and look after my husband and child, or even go shopping, when my child is about – leaving the quests for after bed time.

Also, your character simply follows a golden crumb trail so you never get lost.  Your dog will alert you to evil or find your treasure so you don’t have to search the web for the unobvious stuff that most games seem to fool you with.

The latest updates

So firstly, I apologise for not blogging in a while – what can I say, life gets a bit hectic sometimes.

Anyways, so the important news is that Xbox Live has been updated as of 30 Oct 2009 (sooner for the lucky ones like me who have the beta version).

This update allows you to access facebook, Last.FM, Twitter, Zune and Sky from your Xbox; this is my opinions on each…

Twitter – alright but you’ll need a chatpad for messenging or you’ll bore yourself with the on-screen texting

Zune – allows you to view movies, including HD, at choice.  The function also allows for a Party function so you can watch movies with pals – BRILLANT.  I know you lucky people, on the other side of the Atlantic, have had this with Netflix but licensing laws have restricted this so far in the UK – this is GOOOOOODD

Facebook – loving being able to see my friend’s photos in MEGATRON SIZE but you’ll appear offline  so no chat option and forget yo Farmville, Social interviewing and such like – there’s no function that allows this wasting of valubale facebook page.

Last.FM – I’ve tried this through my iPhone and the PC and just couldn’t see the point of it but I often use the Xbox for media-streaming (listening to music) and so Last.FM has been well-used this week for me – I’m loving it and finding loads of music that is specific to me and my mood – brillant!

SKY – this is FANTASTIC for XBox, but maybe not me.  It’s brillant because it allows people without a dish or contract to access Satellite.  My dad refuses to have a nasty old dish attached to the front of his house, and doesn’t want a monthly contract, so this function will allow the likes of him to watch sky without the need for either – it’s a pay-as-you-view function.  Not so good for me, who already has Sky as it works on a kind of multi-room basis.
